OPHK Troops Foil Multiple Terrorist Infiltration Attempts in Borno, Neutralise Insurgents
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully foiled multiple terrorist infiltration attempts across Borno State, neutralizing several insurgents and recovering weapons in renewed military offensives against Boko Haram and ISWAP.
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully thwarted multiple terrorist infiltration attempts across parts of Borno State, dealing another significant blow to insurgent groups operating in Nigeria's North-East.
The Nigerian military disclosed that the operations, carried out in collaboration with the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai and other security agencies, led to the neutralisation of several terrorists, while others fled with gunshot wounds following intense firefights.
Military authorities said the coordinated operations also resulted in the recovery of weapons, ammunition and other logistics intended for terrorist activities, further disrupting the operational capabilities of the insurgents.
The latest successes come amid sustained military offensives aimed at dismantling the remaining strongholds of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the North-East.
Multiple Infiltration Attempts Repelled
According to military sources, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate troops' defensive positions at different locations in Borno under the cover of darkness.
However, vigilant soldiers detected the movement early and engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat after suffering significant casualties.
The military noted that the attempted infiltrations were designed to target military formations and nearby communities, but prompt intelligence and effective surveillance enabled troops to frustrate the plans before any meaningful damage could be inflicted.
Several motorcycles, assault rifles, magazines, improvised explosive device (IED) materials and communication equipment were reportedly recovered during follow-up exploitation operations.
Air Support Strengthens Ground Operations
The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai played a critical role by providing aerial surveillance and close air support during the engagements.
Military officials said intelligence gathered from aerial reconnaissance helped ground troops identify terrorist movements and respond swiftly to emerging threats.
The combination of air and ground operations has remained central to Nigeria's counter-insurgency strategy, enabling security forces to strike terrorist camps, disrupt logistics routes and prevent planned attacks.
Defence analysts say improved coordination between different branches of the Armed Forces has significantly increased operational effectiveness in recent months.
Sustained Pressure on Terrorist Groups
The latest operation forms part of an ongoing campaign to eliminate remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP operating in the Lake Chad Basin and the Sambisa Forest region.
Over the past several months, Operation Hadin Kai has intensified offensive patrols, ambush operations and clearance missions targeting terrorist enclaves across Borno, Yobe and parts of Adamawa states.
Military authorities have repeatedly stated that the sustained pressure has reduced the insurgents' freedom of movement and weakened their ability to launch large-scale attacks against military formations and civilian populations.
Security experts, however, caution that the insurgent groups continue to adapt their tactics by relying on surprise attacks, improvised explosive devices and attempts to infiltrate military positions.
Communities Urged to Remain Vigilant
The Nigerian military has urged residents of communities across the North-East to remain alert and continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence.
Officials stressed that civilian cooperation remains crucial to identifying suspicious movements and preventing terrorists from regrouping.
The military also reassured residents that troops remain committed to protecting lives and property while sustaining operations aimed at restoring lasting peace to the region.
Authorities encouraged citizens to report unusual activities through established security channels instead of confronting suspected terrorists themselves.
Renewed Commitment to National Security
The Chief of Defence Staff and other senior military commanders have consistently reaffirmed the Armed Forces' determination to end insurgency and other forms of violent extremism across the country.
Operation Hadin Kai continues to conduct both kinetic and non-kinetic operations, combining military action with efforts to encourage the surrender and rehabilitation of repentant insurgents under government-backed deradicalisation programmes.
Security officials maintain that while significant progress has been made, sustained military pressure remains necessary to prevent terrorist groups from rebuilding their operational networks.
The Nigerian Armed Forces have also continued to collaborate with regional partners under the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to address cross-border terrorist activities within the Lake Chad Basin.
Security Situation in the North-East
Although security has improved considerably compared to the peak of the insurgency over a decade ago, sporadic attacks and attempted infiltrations continue to pose challenges in parts of Borno and neighbouring states.
Many communities previously displaced by insurgent violence have gradually resumed normal activities following the restoration of military presence and improved humanitarian support.
The Federal Government has continued reconstruction projects, rehabilitation of critical infrastructure and resettlement initiatives aimed at rebuilding communities affected by years of conflict.
Analysts believe that combining military operations with economic development, education and community engagement remains essential to ensuring lasting peace across the region.
Military Pledges Continued Offensive
Following the successful repulsion of the latest infiltration attempts, military authorities reiterated that Operation Hadin Kai will sustain aggressive operations against all terrorist elements until lasting security is achieved.
They assured Nigerians that troops remain highly motivated and adequately prepared to confront emerging threats while maintaining the momentum of ongoing counter-insurgency campaigns.
The military also commended the courage and professionalism displayed by personnel involved in the operation, describing their swift response as another demonstration of the Armed Forces' commitment to safeguarding Nigeria's territorial integrity and protecting citizens from terrorist violence.
As security operations continue across the North-East, authorities remain optimistic that sustained collaboration among the military, intelligence agencies, local communities and regional partners will further weaken insurgent networks and consolidate the gains already recorded in the fight against terrorism.
